We tell the stories of mill-workers, labour history and the textile industry in the Mississippi Valley and provide an open, inclusive space for the local community and visitors from across the globe.

Fashioning Identity: Clothing and the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community of the Mississippi Valley
How do you use clothing? For years, people around the world have been using clothing as a form of expression, connection, identity, solidarity, and resistance. Nine members of the Mississippi Valley’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community have sat down with the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum to share their wardrobes and their journeys with style. Explore how they use clothing to fashion their identities in their own words through interviews, images, and stories.
This exhibition was developed with the support of Digital Museums Canada, an investment program managed by the Canadian Museum of History.

Is there such a thing as too much tartan? We don`t think so- and neither does @almonteceltfest! Check out "Tartan: Culture & Cloth", hosted in partnership with Almonte Celtfest, on our second floor before it leaves on July 26. We`re open from 1pm – 4pm, Wednesday through Sunday 😊
Curated by Meaghan Guthrie and Makayla Moore, the exhibition invites you to explore the history, heritage, and unexpected global journey of this iconic cloth. Tartan is more than just a fabric; it is a symbol of kinship, identity, and rebellion woven through centuries and across cultures.

Happy Pride, everyone! We are committed to uplifting queer artists, voices, and stories- this month and every month- but here is our Pride Month reminder that Pride started as protest and remains a protest, here and across the world. It cannot be separated from other systems of oppression, and we cannot forget that the 2SLGBTQIA+ community is in every community. Activist Marsha P. Johnson said it best, and we`ll keep saying it: "No pride for some of us, without liberation for all of us."
